He usually is in the training room or quietly tucked at the end of the Denver Nuggets bench in street clothes.

In Washington, where Michael Jordan leads the Wizards to sellouts and losses, Cheaney once was a consistent double-figure scorer (1993-98), averaging a career-best 16.6 points in 1994-95, his second season.

But in his last season in Washington (1998-99), he scored 7.7. In the three years since, he has averaged 4.0, 2.3 and 8.0 in one game this season.

Cheaney played five minutes Wednesday against
