Growing up in Chicago, Isiah Thomas knew Sonny Parker well.

The player known locally as P-Funk starred at Texas A&M and went on to play for the Golden State Warriors. He would come back and play in the summer leagues and act as a mentor to players such as Thomas.

"He was one of the guys passing out the dollar after the game so you could get a hot dog," Thomas recalled.
