According to Jeff Denberg of the AJC, December isn't supposed to be critical in the NBA, but it could be the month that determines the Hawks' playoff chances.

The key will be how close the Hawks can stay near a .500 record until center Theo Ratliff returns. But, with an unusual hip injury, there is no guarantee on when that will be.
