He's had no 42-point games or winning buckets in the waning seconds like his more glamorous teammate, but don't discount the impact Keon Clark has made on the Raptors in the last three games. Or all season, for that matter.
His coach, Lenny Wilkens, certainly doesn't.
"Keon's just played terrific," Wilkens said yesterday of the Raptors' 6-foot-11, 220-pound power forward who has earned high praise for the job he's done filling in for injured veteran Antonio Davis. "He's on the boards for us, helping out on defence. He's given us a big boost."
Basketball's version of a stretch limo without the padded seats, the lanky Clark has certainly delivered some of his best basketball in the last week or so since coming to Toronto as part of the six-player deal last Jan.12 that saw Kevin Willis, Alex Radojevic and Garth Joseph go Denver in exchange for Clark, Tracy Murray and Mamadou N'diaye.
While Willis, Radojevic and Joseph have all since left the Nuggets' organization, Clark has clearly found a home with the Raptors. Still a pup at 26, Clark has given the Raptors a strong defensive presence with his shot-blocking and rebounding skills and he's proven to be a serviceable contributor on offence.
