Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - Former Denver Nuggets guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf offered his reasons as to why he is not playing in the NBA on Tuesday's episode of HBO's "Real Sports".
Although he averaged 19.2 points with Denver during the 1995-96 season, Abdul-Rauf, a Muslim, was better known for refusing to stand during the national anthem because of religious beliefs. On HBO, Abdul-Rauf said the incident is a "strong possibility" why he is not in the NBA now. He also said the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon "is not going to help."
