Yes, you heard correctly. Could the Washington Wizards, owner of 19 whole wins last season, be making a trip to the NBA Finals this season? Sure, they have Michael Jordan, but could it truly be possible? Sam Smith of the Chicago Tribune thinks that perhaps it could.
But there needs to be change. That change, writes Smith, is the acquisition of Portland Trailblazers forward Rasheed Wallace, Mr. Technical himself. The Wizards have been the best team in the East the past month while the Trail Blazers are a team in disarray, with things appearing likely that they will miss the playoffs for the first time in two decades.
'Teammates say he is an unselfish player who doesn't want to be a star or a last-shot, go-to guy. He wouldn't have to be with Jordan. And he began his career as a Wizards draft choice,' writes Smith.
But what would Portland get in return for their All-Star forward? They'd receive a package which includes No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown, shooting guard Courtney Alexander and this season's No. 1 draft pick, a package fit for a leap ahead in the rebuilding process.
