Bradley Beal Won't Play In Restart Due To Shoulder Injury

Jul 7, 2020 11:20 AM

Bradley Beal will not play in the NBA's return-to-play plan in Orlando due to a shoulder injury.

Beal's status had remained uncertain over the past few weeks.

The Washington Wizards will also be without Davis Bertans.

The decision was made in full consultation with Wizards Chief of Athlete Care & Performance Daniel Medina, Wizards Orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih, Beal and his representation.

“Bradley did everything possible to be ready to play, but after closely monitoring his individual workouts we came to the conclusion that it was best for him to sit out the upcoming games in Orlando and avoid the risk of further injury,” said Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard. “Although he was able to play through the majority of the season with the injury, the layoff from March until now did not leave any of us feeling comfortable that he would have enough time to be ready to perform at the extremely high level we are all accustomed to seeing and agreed that not participating in the games in Orlando was the right decision.”

Bradley Beal To Travel To Orlando With Wizards, Still No Decision On Playing Status

Jul 7, 2020 1:21 AM

Bradley Beal will travel with the Washington Wizards to Orlando, but still has yet to decide whether he'll play in the Orlando bubble.

"No final decision. We are all still day by day. He's looking great. His physical condition has been pretty good and continues to improve every day, along with our other guys," said Scott Brooks.

Beal said last week that he was "not swayed one way or another" about resuming his season.

Brooks added that there is no timetable for Beal's decision.

The Wizards will be without John Wall and Davis Bertans in Orlando.

John Wall Will Not Join Wizards In Orlando Due To Exposure Concerns

Jun 30, 2020 1:26 AM

Washington Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard said that John Wall will not join the team in Orlando due to exposure concerns surrounding COVID-19.

"Having somebody go into that bubble that’s not gonna play, that’s just more people going into the bubble. … I don’t think it’s wise to have people in and around the team that aren’t playing (because of) exposure," said Sheppard at a press conference on Monday.

Sheppard added that he hasn't received any indication that other players would opt out of going to Orlando after Davis Bertans declined to join the team.

Teams are allowed to bring 35 people into the bubble.

Sheppard said that the Wizards would "over-index on medical staff," as well as focus on player development coaches.

Davis Bertans Opts Out Of Orlando Restart Ahead Of Free Agency

Jun 22, 2020 10:54 AM

Davis Bertans will sit out the restart of the 19-20 season in Orlando.

Bertans is entering free agency and views sitting out as a preventative measure. Bertans has two previous ACL injuries. If the Wizards don't advance past the seeding games in Orlando, he stands to lose $520,000.

The Washington Wizards fully support Bertans' decision and are unlikely to qualify for the playoffs.

Jun 2, 2020 10:37 AM

Hall of Famer Wes Unseld has passed away at the age of 74.

"He was our hero and loved playing and working around the game of basketball for the cities of Baltimore and Washington D.C., cities he proudly wore on his chest for so many years."

Bradley Beal Views Trade Rumors 'As A Sign Of Respect'

May 29, 2020 12:44 PM

Bradley Beal has emerged in trade rumors even though the Washington Wizards have maintained the position publicly and privately that he's not available. Beal has also reiterated he wants to remain with the Wizards.

The New York Daily News reported last week that the Brooklyn Nets have had "internal discussions" on trading for Beal.

"It's not the first time I've heard this kind of talk," Beal told ESPN. "It's interesting. To me, I look at it as a sign of respect, that I've been doing good things and guys want to play with me.

"That's an unbelievable feeling. When you hear that Kyrie [Irving] and KD [Kevin Durant] want you, s---, that's amazing. At the same time, you don't know how much there is to it, or how easy it would be to do. And I've put down roots in D.C. I've dedicated myself to this town, this community. I love it here, and it would feel great to know I could grind out winning here instead of jumping to another team.

"But I'd be naive to say that I don't think about it when these stories come up."

Beal wants to reunite with John Wall and see how the Wizards can compete.

"My biggest thing right now is that I want to play with John [Wall] again,'' Beal said. "I want to see him get back to that level where I know he can be, especially since my game has grown so much [while he's been out]. What can we accomplish together? I'm so happy he's healthy, working his tail off."

May 27, 2020 1:33 AM

John Wall said he was fully recovered after surgery on his left heel and left Achilles tendon in 2018 and 2019.

Wall hasn't played in an NBA game since December 2018.

"I'm 110% I'm healthy. ... I'm itching to get back out there," said Wall.

Wall added that he will not return this season, regardless of how late the schedule goes.

"I'm just focused on getting back out there and watching how Brad [Beal] has developed, how our team has developed. how we have made changes in the organization to prepare ourselves for next season and see what we can do."

Bradley Beal's Agent: 'There Are No Beal Sweepstakes'

May 24, 2020 1:02 PM

Mark Bartelstein, Bradley Beal's agent, said that his client with remain with the Washington Wizards amid trade rumors.

The Nets reportedly held talks over acquiring Beal.

“There are no Beal Sweepstakes and that’s why he re-signed with the Wizards,” said Mark Bartelstein.

“Brad re-signed with the Wizards because he wanted to stay in Washington and the Wizards wanted to keep him there.”

Beal signed a two-year, $72 million extension in October that will keep him with the Wizards through the 2023 season.
