Kemba Walker Planning On Remaining With Hornets For Long Time

Jul 16, 2018 2:22 PM

Kemba Walker is entering the final season of his contract earning $12 million.

Walker was asked if he could see himself going to New York in his 2019 free agency.

“As far as seeing me in New York, I doubt it,” Walker replied. “I’m a Hornet, and I’m planning on being a Hornet for a long time, so, yeah, I’m not sure about that (New York)."

At a basketball camp last week, Walker was asked by a camper if he might leave the Charlotte Hornets.

“I’m not planning to leave, no,” Walker replied. “It’s not up to me right now.”

Hornets, Magic, Bulls Agree Upon Three-Team Trade

Jul 7, 2018 9:11 PM

The Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic have agreed upon a three-team trade.

The Hornets will trade Timofey Mozgov to the Magic and Julyan Stone to the Bulls. Bismack Biyombo will be moved from the Magic to the Hornets. Biyombo began his career with Charlotte.

Orlando will also acquire Jerian Grant.

The Hornets acquired Mozgov in the Dwight Howard trade.

If Chicago waives Stone, the trade clears Grant and creates a $2.6 million trade exception, according to Albert Nahmad. The Bulls have up to $29 million in cap room before LaVine is officially matched if Sean Kilpatrick and Paul Zipser are waived.

Tony Parker Disputes Way Relationship With Kawhi Leonard Has Been Portrayed

Jul 6, 2018 8:17 PM

Tony Parker spoke about the way his relationship with Kawhi Leonard has been portrayed as part of the reason why Leonard wants a trade from the San Antonio Spurs this offseason.

Leonard and Parker both had quad injuries last offseason.

“I have no problem with Kawhi Leonard. We never had an argument,” Parker said. “When the journalist asked me if my injury was worse than Kawhi’s, I said yes because it was true. But that didn’t lessen the significance of his injury. He took over the franchise and I gave up the torch of the franchise willingly.

“It’s very sad that the media took one quote and made it sound like I didn’t want to play with him. He was the face of the franchise.”

Parker signed with the Charlotte Hornets this offseason.

Warriors Internally Rejected Idea Of Signing Dwight Howard

Jul 4, 2018 11:22 AM

While DeMarcus Cousins has been a difficult personality at certain points in his career, the Golden State Warriors internally made clear that they preferred to add him as a teammate than Dwight Howard.

Draymond Green, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson played with Cousins on the 2016 Olympics team, while Curry played with him on the 2014 World Cup team.

"I've heard and haven't reported this, and maybe this will get aggregated," said Tim Kawakami on The Lowe Post. "I really heard this. It's better than Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard was a 'no'. That was a 'no' in a lot of precincts of the Warriors. Flat out 'no'. And so DeMarcus Cousins against that backdrop is a thumbs up.

"Draymond clearly a 'yes' (on Cousins). Durant probably a 'yes'. Curry probably. The guys who knew him. Maybe others, we'll see.

"Dwight Howard was a 'no'. Let's not do that.

"Dwight's older but he's more healthy and obviously incredibly talent. That was not going to happen."

Kawakami added that he perceived the situation as the decision to rule out Howard made Cousins an easier risk to take on.

Howard ultimately agreed to sign with the Washington Wizards.

Hornets Still Want To Build Around Kemba Walker

Jun 23, 2018 11:31 AM

Kemba Walker is entering the final season of his contract with the Charlotte Hornets but the team publicly says they remain committed to building around him.

Mitch Kupchak said he and Michael jordan consider Walker "the focal point of this franchise going forward."

Walker cannot sign an extension with the Hornets before he becomes a free agent in 2019 due to cap issues.

"I think everybody is aware of the situation, if you follow basketball a little bit, it is unique that he is on an extension that may make it a challenge going forward to figure out before he becomes a free agent," Kupchak said.

Walker is making just $12 million this season.

"I don't think it is anybody's goal to lose him in free agency," Kupchak said. "But going forward, in the community, in the franchise, this is a player that we hope is with us -- not only for the next couple of years, but ends his career here."
