Hornets Hiring Jeff Peterson As Head Of Basketball Operations

Feb 29, 2024 9:40 AM

The Charlotte Hornets are hiring Jeff Peterson as their new head of basketball operations. Peterson replaces Mitch Kupchak, who recently resigned as the Hornets president of basketball operations.

At 35 years old, Peterson will be the NBA's youngest front office leader. He's been working in the Brooklyn Nets front office as an assistant to Sean Marks for the past five years.

Peterson played college basketball at Iowa and Arkansas, before finishing his collegiate career at Florida State. He then held various roles with the Atlanta Hawks front office before joining the Nets in 2019.

Jeff Peterson, Trajan Langdon, Matt Lloyd Emerge As Candidates For Hornets' Job

Feb 28, 2024 11:59 AM

The Charlotte Hornets have begun their search to replace Mitch Kupchak to run their basketball operations department.

Sources tell Marc Stein that the Brooklyn Nets' Jeff Peterson, New Orleans Pelicans' Trajan Langdon and Minnesota Timberwolves' Matt Lloyd are three leading candidates for the position. Stein later reported that Austin Ainge of the Boston Celtics is another candidate to monitor.

Peterson is a top aide to Sean Marks and Brooklyn has a strong interest in trying to keep him. Peterson previously worked with Hornets' co-owner Rich Schanll with the Atlanta Hawks.

Langdon has been a strong candidate for lead decision-maker jobs previously.

Lloyd was one of Tim Connelly's first hires with the Wolves and has previous experience with the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic.

Miles Bridges Has Criminal Charges Dropped Against Him

Feb 13, 2024 5:09 PM

Miles Bridges has had three criminal counts against him dropped by the State of North Carolina.

Bridges had counts of a domestic violence protective order violation, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property against him.

The court filing states that, due to conflicting statements stemming from an October incident that resulted in damage to a vehicle, "given the lack of sufficient evidence to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial."

Prosecutors said in the filing that the victim, Bridges' former girlfriend, gave conflicting statements to police and later said she was unsure how the damages were caused.

"The evidence was going to show Miles was innocent and we were going to win a trial," Bridges' attorney, Allen Brotherton, said. "Our local prosecutor has great integrity and people should appreciate the courage to do the right thing."

In November 2022, Bridges pled no contest to a felony domestic charge following an incident in June.

Bridges is a one-year, $8 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets and will be a free agent this offseason.

Kyle Lowry Will Join Sixers After Buyout From Hornets

Feb 10, 2024 10:14 PM

Kyle Lowry has reached a buyout agreement with the Charlotte Hornets. He's now set to join his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers, after he clears waivers.

Lowry was traded to the Hornets from the Miami Heat ahead of the trade deadline. The veteran point guard and Charlotte agreed he wouldn't report to the team. When the Hornets couldn't re-trade Lowry, they worked a buyout agreement.

Lowry has long wanted to play for the Sixers. He grew up in Philadelphia and played his college ball at Villanova. Now, he'll get a chance to return home and to reunite with Nick Nurse, who was his coach with the Toronto Raptors.

Hornets Would Like To Re-Sign Miles Bridges

Feb 9, 2024 2:00 PM

The Charlotte Hornets would like to re-sign Miles Bridges this offseason, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Bridges had the right to veto any possible trade because he is on a one-year deal and would give up his Bird rights if he were dealt. Bridges is averaging 21.9 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists this season.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Hornets advanced their trade discussions on Bridges the furthest with the Phoenix Suns.

In 2022, Bridges had a no contest plea on a felony domestic violence charge.

Bridges is also due in Mecklenberg County court on Feb. 20 for a hearing that involves an alleged violation of a domestic violence protective order.

Mavericks Were Determined To Trade Grant Williams, 'Rubbed A Lot Of People The Wrong Way'

Feb 9, 2024 8:18 AM

The tenure of Grant Williams with the Dallas Mavericks lasted just a few months as they swiftly traded him at the deadline to the Charlotte Hornets for P.J. Washington. The Mavericks sent out a 2030 swap to the San Antonio Spurs to acquire Williams on his four-year, $54 million sign-and-trade and then sent out a 2027 first round pick along with him and Seth Curry to acquire Washington.

"The fact they gave up a 2030 swap for Grant Williams and then dumped him as soon as they possibly could, which they were determined to dump him," said Tim MacMahon on the Brian Windhorst Podcast. "Not just about getting P.J. Washington, they wanted to be out of the Grant Williams' business. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

"He switched from Lukas to Tatums by the way... his shoe selection.

Williams and Luka Doncic share an agent in Bill Duffy, which could have contributed to his initial arrival with the Mavericks. MacMahon also described the acquisition of Williams "a massive whiff" and that he had multiple front offices reach out to him about how Dallas improved in the short-term, but now do not control their draft capital between 2027 and 2030.
