Grizzlies Holding Trade Talks With Multiple Teams On No. 4 Pick

Jun 20, 2018 11:53 PM

The Memphis Grizzlies are holding trade talks with several teams concerning the No. 4 overall pick and Chandler Parsons.

Parsons' contract is considered an albatross due to his ongoing knee issues. Parsons is owed $49.2 million over the next two seasons.

The Grizzlies would like to trade back rather than trading out of the lottery altogether.

The Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have each showed varying degrees of interest in a deal.

The Grizzlies are high on Wendell Carter Jr., but he's currently projected to be a top-7 pick.

Mavs, Magic, Nuggets Trying To Move Up To No. 3 To Select Luka Doncic

Jun 20, 2018 7:35 PM

The Atlanta Hawks very well could control the direction of the draft at No. 3 as they zero in on either selecting Luka Doncic, or trading the slot to a team looking to move up to select him.

"Teams know this right now, they have to get to No. 3 to get Luka Doncic," said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN's Wednesday evening draft coverage.

"Dallas at No. 5 has been knocking at that door," added Wojnarowski.

The Orlando Magic and even the Denver Nuggets also have interest in trading up for Doncic, according to Wojnarowski.

If the Hawks trade down, they could target Trae Young.

Nuggets Aggressively Trying To Unload Kenneth Faried

Jun 15, 2018 9:33 AM

The Denver Nuggets are aggressively exploring trade scenarios to unload the contract of Kenneth Faried.

Faried signed a five-year, $60 million contract extension with the Nuggets in 2014. Faried is owed $13.8 million for the 18-19 season.

The Atlanta Hawks are one of the teams interested in facilitating a trade. Atlanta is seeking draft picks, young players or both. The Nuggets own the No. 14 overall pick in the draft.

The Hawks own four picks in next week’s draft: Nos. 3, 19, 30 and 34 overall.

Nuggets Continue To Seek Trade Of Kenneth Faried

May 30, 2018 11:56 AM

The Denver Nuggets continue to pursue a trade of Kenneth Faried, who has been out of their rotation for some time now.

"The Nuggets have been trying to get off of Kenneth Faried's contract for a year plus," said Wojnarowski. "They're a candidate to use that 14th pick to get off of that salary."

Faried has one more season at $13.8 million on his contract and moving that salary could help give the Nuggets cap flexibility.

New Book Details Involvement Of Isiah Thomas In 2011 Carmelo Anthony Trade

Apr 17, 2018 2:37 PM

Isiah Thomas played a pivotal role in the New York Knicks' trade for Carmelo Anthony in 2011, according to a new book by Ian Thomsen.

The Knicks and Nets were bidding for Anthony but Donnie Walsh's reluctance to include Timofey Mozgov was holding back a deal from getting done.

"Thomas and I had been sharing information for years, he had provided me with insight on the new generation of AAU players who were seizing control of the NBA, and I believed he would be interested in hearing about Anthony," wrote Thomsen. "But Thomas was gunshy. It had been three years since his departure from the Knicks and he was still being criticized in New York as if he had never left. He said he didn't know (former Nuggets exec Masai) Ujiri, and the last thing he needed was to have it leaked that he was involved in the talks for Anthony. He made it clear that he no longer had authority within the Knicks organization, which meant he had everything to lose and nothing to gain. Thomas could see how this would play out: The trade with the Knicks would collapse, word would get out of his involvement and he would be the scapegoat. 'I don't want anything to do with it,' he said.

“I explained why I had assumed that he would be interested in hearing about the negotiations. Anthony had stuck out his neck to force a trade to New York, and if the trade was doomed to fall apart because the Knicks weren't willing to include a back-end player like Mozgov, then it wouldn't only be Anthony who would be furious. Anthony's fellow NBA stars — his close friends — would be angry with the Knicks too, and it would become more difficult than ever for the Knicks to recruit another star in years to come. The future of the Knicks mattered not at all to me, but I figured it would be important to Thomas. He said he agreed with my point of view, as I knew he would, since he had helped me to understand this dynamic over several years of conversations.

“Thomas thanked me for the call and then insisted that he was going to keep out of it. His goal was to get on with his own life. If the Knicks were going to make the trade, then let them figure it out."

Thomas, however, did not stay out of it despite coaching at Florida International at the time.

"My phone buzzed with the call from Isiah Thomas. 'Well, I passed on the information,’ he said, without saying to whom it had been passed. 'Now we'll see what happens.' The next morning, the news broke that Timofey Mozgov had been included in the Knicks' offer to Denver. That night the trade was completed."

Nuggets Will Retain Michael Malone As Head Coach

Apr 13, 2018 4:17 PM

The Denver Nuggets will retain Michael Malone as head coach next season.

The Nuggets finished one game out of the playoffs.

“There’s improvement across all levels of our team,” Connelly said. “I guess (questioning Malone’s job status is) the unfortunate narrative of  professional basketball, but ‘Mo’s done a fantastic job.’ ”

Malone has one season remaining on his current contract.

“Over the last several weeks of the season, I thought ‘Mo did just a brilliant job kind of using our roster, being creative and thinking outside the box,” Connelly said. “I can’t say enough (about) how proud of him and his staff I am, faced with insurmountable odds after a rough start to (a seven-game) road trip…

“We had every chance to lay down, and we did the opposite. I think our coaching staff should be lauded for a fantastic job.”

Winner Of Wolves-Nuggets Gets Final Western Conference Playoff Berth

Apr 10, 2018 10:32 AM

The Minnesota Timberwolves will host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday in what is effectively a one-game playoff.

The Pelicans, Spurs and Thunder clinched their spots in the playoffs on Monday, which has left just one opening to be decided by the Northwest Division rivals who coincidentally play each other on the final day of the season.

The Wolves haven't reached the playoffs since 2004 when they reached the Western Conference Finals and lost to the Lakers.

Denver last reached the playoffs in 2013 when they were upset by the Warriors in the first round.
