I?ve got an idea for the NBA: The way to get Mark Cuban to shut up is to listen to him.
Last year, Mavs owner Cuban?s season-long campaign to improve NBA officiating earned him a total of $505,000 in fines. Now, one comment ? a dig at NBA officiating czar Ed Rush?s unworthiness of even being able to ?manage a Dairy Queen?? ? has earned Cuban a record $500,000 fine.
Or maybe ?earned?? is the wrong word.
We have no idea if Cuban?s comment will affect individual in-game calls. But it has obviously affected the logic being mishandled at NBA headquarters.
Is there freedom of speech? What if the officiating process does suck? What if Ed Rush is unworthy of managing a DQ? Is a half-a-million bucks really a punishment that fits the crime of Cuban telling it like it is? Or even of how he thinks it is?
