The Deseret News reports that Jazz Vice President of Basketball Operations Kevin O'Connor has been given a multi-year contract extension.

"I just feel the comfort level here is real high," said O'Connor, who was hired by the Jazz after former executive Scott Layden left to become general manager of the New York Knicks. "And comfort level is real important to me."

O'Connor has kept a relatively low profile since coming to Utah, working quietly with Jazz owner Larry H. Miller and Jazz coach Jerry Sloan.

"Working with him has been terrific from my standpoint," Sloan said.

That feeling, O'Connor said, is mutual, making it easy for him to sign the extension, financial terms of which were not disclosed.

That sentiment is not lost on Jazz players who have quickly come to respect the unassuming O'Connor, a 54-year-old New York native.

"I haven't been around a lot of (general managers) but as a G.M. he has a lot of confidence in his players," said guard DeShawn Stevenson, the 20-year-old Californian whom O'Connor selected straight out of high school in the summer of 2000 when he oversaw his first NBA draft for the Jazz."
