The staggering Hawks are going to take a chance on a player who became the poster child for the argument that teenagers have no place in the NBA, according to Jeffrey Denberg of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Leon Smith, 20, who blew a career in Dallas two years ago after being a first-round draft pick, was scheduled to arrive Sunday night and sign a 10-day contract with the Hawks. Smith is eligible for two 10-day deals that would take him through the end of the month and allow the Hawks to make a decision on retaining him for the rest of the season.
