Starters: Orlando -- guards Darrell Armstrong, Tracy McGrady; forwards Mike Miller, Pat Garrity; center Grant. Memphis -- guards Jason Williams, Shane Battier; forwards Grant Long, Pau Gasol; center Tony Massenburg.
Magic notes: Orlando plays a regular-season game in Memphis tonight for the first time in franchise history. The game is the second leg of a back-to-back set of games. Not as deep as they were in the past, the Magic have fared particularly well in back-to-back games this season. They are just 7-15 when playing on back-to-back nights -- 4-7 in the first game, 3-8 in the second game. . . . Orlando routed Memphis 113-71 back on Dec. 3. In that game, Orlando shot 56.4 percent from the floor and hit 11 of 19 3-pointers. The 42-point drubbing came close to equaling the franchise record for the most lopsided win at home -- a 46-point win against Philadelphia in 1995. The 42-point margin was the second largest in team history. Mike Miller scored 26 points that night, while Tracy McGrady dominated his matchup against Shane Battier. McGrady had 22 points in just 31 minutes that night. . . . Orlando is just 9-12 on the road this season. But they are a respectable 9-11 against the rugged Western Conference.
Grizzlies notes: Memphis is just 12-26 and near the bottom of the Western Conference, but the Grizzlies have shown tremendous promise this season. Pau Gasol and Battier are the favorites to win the league's Rookie of the Year award, while second-year forward Stromile Swift has been making progress. The Grizzlies put together a three-game winning streak last week, topping Toronto, Phoenix and Utah. But they've since lost to Los Angeles and Dallas. . . . Gasol had 26 points in Thursday's loss to the Mavs and a career-best 31 against the Suns. The Spanish 7-footer has extremely long arms and is developing a post game to go with his slashing capabilities. In addition to averaging 16.5 points a game, he ranks in the NBA's top 10 in rebounding (8.8), field goal percentage (50.9) and blocked shots (2.3). . . . Shane Battier has struggled shooting (40.7 percent) and in one-on-one matchups (Kobe Bryant had 56 points last week), but the Grizzlies love his leadership and hustle. . . . Former University of Florida star Jason Williams has been as erratic as ever this season. He's tried the second most 3-pointers in the NBA this season (255), but made just 73. His steals are up (2.0), but his assists are down (8.0).
Next for the Magic: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday vs. Atlanta Hawks (Sunshine Network)
