The cavalry isn't coming to the rescue.
Dana Barros' injured left hamstring is still a long way from being healed, there are no trades on the horizon, and Pistons President Joe Dumars said Sunday there has been no talk of bringing in any player on a 10-day contract.
The point-guard burden will remain on the shoulders of Chucky Atkins and Damon Jones -- with some emergency help from Jon Barry -- for the foreseeable future.
"We aren't talking about 10-days because we have Jon Barry," Dumars said after watching the Pistons' short walk-through practice. "Jon has played enough point guard in this league where he could, over a short period, get us through this."
And lately, Atkins and Jones have shown signs that they, too, are up to the challenge. Against Boston on Saturday, despite giving up 19 points to Kenny Anderson, the two combined for 14 points (including the winning basket by Atkins), sevens assists and three turnovers.
"Those guys have been getting the job done," Coach Rick Carlisle said. "They just have to play all-out every minute they are out there. One of the things they've been doing as a tandem is that they have been picking up defensively full court, which has really helped us."
