Magic notes: Orlando bounced back from a disappointing defeat in Milwaukee Friday night by trouncing the Memphis Grizzlies 119-103 Saturday night. The Magic have won eight of their past 12 games. . . . Orlando experienced a tremendous high and a terrible low against the Hawks on consecutive nights in early December. On Dec. 7 in Orlando, the Magic scored a season-best 129 points in a 35-point pummeling of the Hawks. But a night later in Atlanta, the Hawks rallied for a 107-104 victory. . . . Tracy McGrady has dominated his matchup with Atlanta standout Shareef Abdur-Rahim. He had 32 points in the first meeting this season and 40 in the rematch. Last season, he scored 30 and 26 points in the two games he played against the Hawks. . . . Troy Hudson continued his much-improved play in Saturday's win, scoring 18 points and adding seven assists. Hudson, who struggled mightily last season, is averaging 9.3 points a game. . . . Orlando is fifth in the NBA in scoring (100.6), but 26th in points allowed (97.7).
Hawks notes: Atlanta was able to somewhat salvage its five-game homestand with a 95-91 victory Monday afternoon against the Houston Rockets. The Hawks dropped the first four games of the home stretch, including one against a Chicago team that came into the game winless on the road this season. . . . Monday's victory also allowed the Hawks to snap a six-game losing streak. All five starters scored in double figures and Dion Glover added 15 off the bench. Atlanta trailed by as many as 10, but outscored the Rockets in both the third and fourth quarters. . . . Atlanta is just 4-16 on the road, with three of the wins coming against NBA doormats Cleveland, Memphis and Chicago. . . . The Hawks sorely miss center Theo Ratliff, who has played just three games with the franchise since last February's trade for Dikembe Mutombo. Last season, he was out with a broken wrist. He now has been hampered by a hip injury. Without Ratliff's shot-blocking ability in the middle, Atlanta is last in the NBA in points allowed (100.8) and field-goal percentage allowed (46.4 percent). . . . Shooting guard Jason Terry scored a career-best 46 points last week against the Mavericks. He has led the Hawks in scoring the past four games.
Next for the Magic: Thursday, vs. Miami Heat, 7:30 p.m. (Sunshine Network).
