'ZO, BUT NO EWING

The first meeting of the season Thursday night between the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat found Alonzo Mourning still in the Heat's starting lineup and Patrick Ewing still on the Magic's injured list.

Mourning, who came to Georgetown three years after the conclusion of Ewing's college career there, is averaging 15.3 points and 8.4 rebounds a game and ranks fifth in the NBA in blocked shots in his first full season since being diagnosed with a kidney disorder. He has missed only five games, with all of those coming early in the season because of a virus that the Heat originally suspected was food poisoning.

Ewing, meanwhile, was not in uniform for the ninth game in a row because of tendinitis in his right calf and Achilles tendon. An MRI was done on his leg Sunday, and while the results revealed no damage, Ewing is still not able to run.

"He's going to play again," Magic coach Doc Rivers said. "I can't tell you when, though."

Ewing was averaging 7.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 35 games before he was hurt.

BOBBLE-MANIA

The first 5,000 fans in attendance received bobblehead dolls of Mike Miller. The Magic's second-year swingman admitted he offered no input into designing his likeness.

"I haven't even seen it," Miller said before the game.
