About the Heat: The 17-28 Heat has won nine of its last 11 after downing the Spurs 88-83 Friday behind Rod Strickland?s 17 points, including a clutch 3-pointer down the stretch. C Alonzo Mourning, who returned from a two-game absence due to flu symptoms, isn?t 100 percent as he made only 4 of 13 with five rebounds. G Eddie Jones has made 33 of his last 67 3-pointers, a hair under 50 percent. PF Brian Grant, who had a season-high 14 rebounds Tuesday, followed that up with a rugged defensive effort on Spurs PF Tim Duncan in the decisive fourth quarter. The Heat is 5-25 at the Garden, but three of those wins have come in the last three seasons. In the early-season meeting in New York, an 83-74 Knicks win, the Heat was missing four of its current starters. F/C Sean Marks was activated Friday after being out since Dec. 17. C Ernest Brown (thumb), F Malik Allen (knee tendinitis) and G Anthony Carter (recovering from hernia surgery) are on the injured list.
About the Knicks: Interim coach Don Chaney?s job seemed in jeopardy as the 18-26 Knicks dropped eight in a row before turning it around with a four-game winning streak, which was snapped in Friday?s 92-87 loss to the Pacers. Fragile C Marcus Camby, who has been hampered by a sore left foot, tore a muscle in his right hip Friday and might miss up to six weeks. The Knicks? resurgence coincided with the improved play of 36-year-old PG Mark Jackson, who is fourth on the all-time assists list. Small F Latrell Sprewell and G Allan Houston combine to average over 40 points a game, but Sprewell sprained his left ankle Friday and if he plays, he won?t be 100 percent. Former Heat F Clarence Weatherspoon is hobbled by a sore right foot, but will probably take up most of Camby?s minutes at center as the Knicks go to a smaller lineup. G Larry Robinson (knee tendinitis) and C Travis Knight (knee surgery) are on the injured list.
