Jamal Mashburn comes. David Wesley goes.
That is the good news-bad news scenario for the Hornets today as they deal with injuries while trying to build momentum and extend their three-game winning streak.
Mashburn, who hasn't played since November because of a lower abdominal strain, will practice today. He had planned to return Feb. 11. Coach Paul Silas has said he anticipates Mashburn returning Feb. 18 against Milwaukee.
Trainer Terry Kofler said Mashburn could take part in four-on-four drills.
Wesley, who has missed two games with a sore left ankle, will miss the team's two games this week, Tuesday against Boston and Thursday against Philadelphia, both at home.
"It worries me," Silas said of Wesley's condition. "I doubt that he will be ready to play in either of the games this week because at best he will need some rest for it. But beyond that, I don't know. I'm anxious to get a report from the doctor."
Wesley, averaging 15.9 points and four assists, had returned to Charlotte by the time the Hornets defeated Memphis 97-79 Sunday. He was hit on the left ankle during a Jan. 26 home game against Houston. He played Tuesday at San Antonio, but did not shoot well and said later the pain was affecting him.
He did not play Friday in Houston and had a magnetic resonance imagine that day. Team physician Glenn Perry is expected to see Wesley today.
No numbers yet on ticket drive
There has been no official word from the Hornets' New Orleans office about how their ticket campaign has gone. Reports are the club has deposits for about 8,000 season tickets.
The commitments are for next season, if the NBA approves the relocation bid. The Hornets can break their agreement with New Orleans if their sales goals are not met by March 15. The requirements call for commitments on 8,000 season tickets, 54 suites and 2,450 club seats.
The team had said it would announce sales figures Friday but did not. A Hornets spokesman could not confirm the reports, but said the numbers might be available late this week.
