Nets' president Rod Thorn figures Kenyon Martin is  a marked man.  Martin was assessed his seventh flagrant foul in the Nets' 97-78 victory over Miami on Friday. "He obviously has a scarlet A; he's the Hester Prynne of the N.B.A.," Thorn said, referring to Nathaniel Hawthorne's protagonist in "The Scarlet Letter."

Liz Robbins of the New York Times says that Thorn and Nets Coach Byron Scott were particularly upset that Miami's Alonzo Mourning was not fined or suspended.  Mourning was ejected near the end of the game after receiving his second technical foul for scuffling with Martin. "I've always said there's a double standard in this league anyway, and that pretty much sums it up," Scott said.

Scott reiterated that Martin has to work harder to keep his emotions in check.
