In 11 minutes Wednesday night, Quincy Lewis ended the John Starks era in Utah.
Coming off the bench midway through the third quarter against San Antonio, the seldom-used Lewis scored 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Though the Spurs held on for an 86-84 win that relegated Utah to the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, Lewis' performance earned him a spot on the Jazz's 12-man postseason roster, submitted to the NBA on Thursday.
Backup point guard Rusty LaRue was included because John Crotty remains injured. Starks was left out, and because his two-year, $4.7 million contract with the Jazz expires at the end of this season, the 36-year-old shooting guard likely has played his last game for Utah.
"John's been a total professional," said Kevin O'Connor, the Jazz's vice president of basketball operations. "He's been a positive influence on the bench and in practice. But at this time, we felt it was important to put what we think is our best team on the floor."
