They might have blew Game 1 but the San Antonio Spurs showed they are still a team to be reckoned with in Game 2. The Lakers threw their best stretch of ball this post season at the Spurs and they didn?t buckle. They fended off a loud, cocking Staples Center crowd, refusing to give in and live up to their "Spurs don't have the heart? label. But they did, winning 88-85 to even the series at 1-1..
"It was semi-must win," said Tim Duncan, the 2002 NBA MVP.
It was a night where things were clicking for the Spurs, a night where everything worked so well that even when Coach Gregg Popovich wanted to call a timeout, they wound up getting a three-point play out of the deal. Play slowed down, the Spurs coaches and reserves leaked onto the court and everyone stopped. Except Daniels, who raced to the basket, drew a foul on Samaki Walker and made a layup plus the free throw.
"We did not call that," Popovich said. "That was luck."
