The year was 1979, and the Chicago Bulls owned the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft.

Michigan State star Earvin "Magic" Johnson went first to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Then, instead of selecting Sidney Moncrief, who would go on to play in five All-Star Games over the course of his 11 NBA seasons, the Bulls went with UCLA center David Greenwood, who played 12 seasons but never rose to All-Star caliber.

The reason: Chicago already had a similar-position player to Moncrief ? Reggie Theus ? who would go three picks later to Milwaukee.

"We made a mistake," said Jerry Sloan, a rookie head coach with the Bulls at the time.
