Nicole Weiseneeegan reports that Allen Iverson is in trouble with the authorities again. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson said that they will be submitting a warrant for Iverson?s arrest to the District Attorney today. If the DA approves the warrant, the authorities will allow Iverson to turn himself in.
Iverson has been under investigation since last week when it was alleged that he broke into a Philadelphia apartment and threatened two men with a gun. Police are recommending about 10 charges, including simple and aggravated assault, terroristic threats and various firearms offenses, including carrying a gun without a permit.
In Philadelphia, the police can only recommend charges. It is up to the DA to decide whether a suspect should be charged, arrested and prosecuted. That decision could take hours, days or weeks.
The incident took place on July 2nd when Iverson and his wife Tawanna got in a fight at their mansion. Iverson kicked his wife out and she left with his cousin Shaun Bowman. Later that night, Iverson and a friend went to Bowman?s apartment looking for his wife and cousin. When they weren?t there, he demanded that Charles Jones, Bowman's 21-year-old roommate, and his 17-year-old neighbor, Hakeem, tell him where Bowman and his wife were.
One source said that Iverson made sure they saw a gun in his waistband. He made all sorts of threats, including: "Somebody's going to die tonight, and it's not going to be me" and "I want to make an example of somebody. Call her," sources said.
After talking to his wife on the phone, Iverson and his friend left under more threats. About twelve hours later, Jones reported the incident to the police.
The Sixers will support their star according to a statement released last night. "We have been advised that charges are imminent, and while we do not condone such conduct if true, it is important to remember that our system of justice presumes Allen to be innocent until proven otherwise. "We will continue to support Allen while we await the outcome of these proceedings," the statement said.
