Phil Miller of the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Raul Lopez, the Jazz's 2001 first-round draft pick, is expected to be in Utah by Tuesday, a team spokesman said.
The original cost of the buyout was $5 million, but reports say it has been reduced to under $2 million. Under NBA rules, the Jazz can only pay $350,000 towards the buyout. Lopez has reportedly arranged for loans through his agents to cover the remainder.
Lopez will be in Utah by Tuesday. It is not known whether he will be cleared in time to play in the Rocky Mountain Revue, which runs from July 19th through the 27th. Lopez must also pass a physical before he is cleared to play. He tore a ligament in his knee, which forced him to miss last year?s playoffs.
Once cleared by the doctors, Lopez will be able to sign a 3-year rookie contract worth up to $2.8 million.
