The Nets know the baggage Chris Childs has accumulated since he left them and crossed the Hudson to play for the Knicks six years ago.

They know his history of making big plays in big situations and how he helped quarterback the Knicks to the 1999 NBA Finals. They know, too, how he can be a little bit loose of tongue at times, stirring up the chemistry with a frank remark. They also know he shot just 32.8 percent last season in Toronto at age 34. But with designs on returning to the Finals next season, he may be the best fit to back up Jason Kidd, considering the other alternatives on the market.

Steve Adamek, The Record, reports how Childs and Thorn sat down yesterday to discuss the details.
