Doug Smith of the Toronto Star reports that the Toronto Raptors are reeling. After losing to the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers and losing another key player to injury, the Raptors may have finally hit bottom.

The Cavaliers were only 3-19 coming into last night?s game. After Alvin Williams left in the second quarter with a sore ankle, Toronto coach Lenny Wilkins had to shuffle the rotation yet again. With Antonio Davis and Vince Carter back home in Toronto nursing injuries, and Alvin Williams missing the second half, the Raptors were unable to keep pace with the Cavaliers.

"It's not fun to play like this but what can you do?" wondered Jerome Williams. "You've got two choices. You can sit down or you can try to play and do what you can out there. That's what we're going to have to do."

Alvin Williams originally hurt his ankle last week against Dallas. The pain was finally too much for him to continue. He will be re-evaluated today when the team returns to Toronto. Without Williams, the Raptors had to rely on the limping Lindsey Hunter and Jermaine Jackson to play point guard.

Hunter tried gamely to go on his still-sore knee and while he looked good at times, it's obvious he's not ready to make a huge contribution. "Lindsey's not nearly 100 per cent, you can just see that," said Wilkens. "Straight ahead, he can go, but making cuts is agony for him. We're going to have to re-evaluate him."

Neither Hunter nor Jackson can defend as well as Williams and it showed. Cleveland rookie guard Dajuan Wagner repeatedly took advantage of Hunter and Jackson to get to the basket and led all scorers with 33 points.

The Raps could be in big trouble if Williams is forced to sit because of his ankle injury. He has been their most consistent player this season. With Hunter?s injury, there is no long term replacement for the point guard position. "Alvin's been battling a lot of injuries lately," Jerome Williams said. "He's not only our floor leader and point guard, but he's our second option on offence and we need him out there."
