Mark Jackson got his 10,000th assist Wednesday night during the Jazz's 99-93 win over Phoenix at the Delta Center.
His timing was impeccable.
With 57.6 seconds left in the third quarter, the Jazz had wiped out an 11-point deficit but were again trailing 76-71 when Jackson hit Matt Harpring on the wing for an open 20-footer. Harpring drilled the jumper to trim the Suns' lead to three and join John Stockton and Magic Johnson as only the third player in NBA history with 10,000 assists.
Jackson received a lengthy ovation from the crowd, and he appreciated it.
"I wanted to do it here," he explained, "because everyone has been so nice to me."

John Stockton scored eight points to pass Eddie Johnson for 34th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Malone had his own milestone, passing Walt Bellamy for eighth on the league's all-time rebounding list.
