Playing seemed like a good idea during pre-game warmups prior to the Jazz's Monday night-loss to the NBA-leading Dallas Mavericks.

But it was some time between tipoff and, oh, the next 30 seconds that Matt Harpring realized it probably wasn't.

"Before the game I was like, 'OK, I'm feeling good ? I feel good enough to where I can out there and be efficient,' Harpring said. "But the first play of the game . . . "

The voice of the Jazz's second-leading scorer and rebounder this season trails from there.

Tim Buckley of the Desert News reports that while X-rays were negative, Harpring feels like playing on Monday may have done more harm than good. He was unable to practice on Tuesday and his status is uncertain for tonights' game against Memphis.

"I think I tore a muscle that runs . . . from the hip to the rib," he said. "That's probably the most pain. "I (first) thought it was more in the ribs, because the ribs are real tender, and on the X-ray you could tell it was bruised," Harpring added. "But I think now it's more the muscle ? kind of an (abdominal) muscle that runs along your side."

Harpring thinks it's doubtful that he will be able to play tonight, but that's what they said about Monday's game as well.
