It's probably fitting that the local Lakewood Church's congregation has bought the soon-to-be-abandoned Compaq Center. Because as the Jazz can attest, prayers are answered here.
Matt Harpring nailed a high-arching three-point miracle over Yao Ming at the end of regulation Tuesday, and though it didn't send the Utah Jazz to the NBA Finals, it was only marginally less dramatic than the shot John Stockton hit in that same basket nearly six years ago. This time, Harpring, Stockton and Karl Malone combined for 75 points and capped a memorable comeback from eight points down to send the Jazz into overtime, where they powered past the Rockets, 103-101.
"It was heartbreaking," said Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich, but what else could he expect? These teams have been crushing each other's hopes for years -- with Stockton and Malone in the middle of most of them.
"I seem to remember about as many bad moments as good," Stockton said.
