Phil Miller of the Salt Lake Tribune writes: Summertime entertainment is always full of sequels and remakes, but here's one Jazz fans won't have to sit through this year: Waiting for Stockton, Part II.

John Stockton plans to reveal his intentions for the 2003-04 season -- return for a 20th year in a Jazz uniform or retire and start working on his Hall of Fame induction speech -- soon after this season ends. No repeat of last summer, when the 10-time All-Star kept all of Utah in suspense for more than three months until finally revealing his decision to return in August.

"I came back [to Utah] and everybody had heard about it all summer. I didn't mean for that to happen," said Stockton, embarrassed by the attention. "What I'd like to do is make the call early and go on, so we don't have to visit about it all summer."

That's what the Jazz want, too, particularly this year. Utah expects to have as much as $30 million to spend on free agents once contracts expire on July 1, but the Jazz cannot make a move until Stockton's and Karl Malone's contract status is resolved.
