Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune reports that it has finally happened for the long suffering fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves, their team has finally secured their first ever playoff home-court advantage with a 51 win season.
The rejoicing didn't last long however. As Portland fell to the Clippers the Lakers, who are 30-5 in the their last two playoff seasons moved into fifth place and will visit the Wolves for the first round match-up.
"It's our reality, this is my hand and we've got to play it" is how Kevin Garnett, the Western Confrence's Player of the Month for April described the fact the Wolves will have to beat the defending three time defending champions to make their first second round appearence in franchise history. Flips Saunders described the mood on the plane on the way back from Memphis when theam found out saying "No emotion, we didn't react. This team has taken on a character: We're very much a matter-of-fact team. We never get overly high and we've never gotten down too low. That's why we haven't had a lot of long streaks, win or lose. Everybody was like, 'Well, that's who we play."
