Once thought to be the missing piece, Antoine Rigaudeau might end his career with the Mavericks after just 11 games. An agent for the longtime European star told the Star-Telegram Rigaudeau might not return to the team for training camp next season.
If Rigaudeau does not come back, he would likely resume his career in Europe. He has two years left on his contract with the Mavs, though only next season is guaranteed. The 2004-05 season is at the team's discretion. A buyout could be negotiated to allow Rigaudeau to play overseas.
Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, in Italy participating in several camps, said Rigaudeau is scheduled to join the Mavs' summer-league team in July. But Nelson also acknowledged the possibility of Rigaudeau not returning.
"Is it possible that if a great deal presented itself over here that he would pursue it? There's always that chance," Nelson said. "If he can make big money, it's a possibility, but the money is drying up here, too."
