Don Nelson is back in Dallas, but there continues to be no rush to the negotiating table for him or Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Nelson returned Saturday from two weeks at his second home on Maui. He recovered from the jet lag with a round of golf, and neither he nor Cuban was expecting to meet in the the next few days.

Nelson's coaching contract expired after the Mavericks were knocked out of the playoffs in the conference finals by San Antonio. He has eight years remaining on his deal to be general manager (for three years), then a consultant (five years).

Both Cuban and Nelson have said reworking the deal so that at least three more coaching seasons would run concurrently with the other portions of the contract will not be difficult to do.

"It's going to get done sometime before the end of the month, whenever we can get together," Nelson said.
