The bad sign? Don Chaney has no idea if Antonio McDyess will be at training camp. The good signs? When he met with McDyess last week, he was in great spirits, was able to flex his knee and the Knicks coach didn't remember seeing him on crutches.

Chaney, in his first remarks since McDyess' third kneecap surgery on April 22, said he expected McDyess to play next season but wasn't nearly as emphatic as Scott Layden's recent guarantees.

"It's projected he will play," Chaney said. "He's recovering very well. The flexibility in his knee, he's able to bend it father than we anticipated. He's doing a lot more than the doctors want him to do. So he's feeling great."
