Chris Bosh has several appointments before Thursday's NBA draft in New York. He must pick up his suit. He has some interviews with the media.

Oh, he also has to visit a bookstore with his mother.

With Bosh about to enter the NBA and spend hundreds of hours on airplanes, Bosh's mother figures it's a perfect time to start their own book-of-the-month club. Each month, Bosh and his mother, Frieda, will read the same book and then compare notes.

"There's life other than basketball," said Frieda Bosh, who anticipates she and her son will select a book by Zora Neale Hurston.

There always has been more to life than basketball for Bosh, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward from Georgia Tech who is likely to be drafted No. 4 by the Toronto Raptors. He is a studious sort whose college major was management.
