Additional confirmations, furious denials, heaps of speculation and endless questions emerged in the fallout of yesterday's Post report that Jason Kidd told Nets' management he does not want to play for coach Byron Scott.

Despite the denials by Nets team president Rod Thorn and by Kidd's wife, Joumana, one official with NBA connections - plus original sources used by The Post - supported the story.

"This should have been done in June," said one of the sources, referring to the time after the Finals when the Nets lost to the Spurs and Eddie Jordan was still an assistant. "Everybody is going to deny it. This is the old Nets ownership again. This is a lose-lose situation. They stand to lose a $100 million player.

"The question now for the Nets is how do they keep both Byron Scott and Jason Kidd? And how do they co-exist?" the source continued. "Suppose after the Finals they had released Byron Scott because he didn't win. It would have been a YankeeNets thing to do. But now, it's tough because they can't let it seem like a player is running things."

Thorn, after issuing a statement before noon that was basically a no comment, came back with a later declaration that "categorically" denied stories that appeared yesterday in two newspapers which claimed the All-Star free-agent point guard had presented Nets brass with a "him or me" ultimatum concerning Scott.
