When Anthony Carter did not pick up his player option by the June 30 deadline, there was a possibility the former Heat guard would be out $4.1 million and permanently out of an NBA job.

A month later, Carter not only signed a free agent contract with the defending NBA champion Spurs but will also have the $4.1 million that was once thought lost.

Carter's agent, Bill Duffy, will pay Carter more than $3 million -- the difference between the $4.1 million he was due with the Heat and the near $1 million he signed for with San Antonio -- Carter told WFOR-4 on Saturday.

''It was just a mix-up with my agent, but we squared it all away,'' Carter said while watching the AND1 street ball exhibition game at AmericanAirlines Arena on Saturday.

``It's not my fault, it's not the Heat's fault. It's just something that happened.

``My agent is a great person. We got that squared away where he's going to take care of the rest of it.''
