Charles Tucker, the agent for free agent Steve Smith, said Tuesday his client remains "very interested'' in the Nuggets. Smith spoke with Vandeweghe on Thursday and is being considered for the team's need at shooting guard. Tucker said other teams in the mix for Smith include Atlanta, Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers, who couldn't pay Smith more than the $1 million minimum. Tucker said Smith, a former All-Star and a 2000 Olympian, would prefer a salary next season of between $2 million and $4 million and would like a deal for two or three-years. Considering Smith is 34, has bad knees and played sparingly last season for San Antonio, it might be difficult to get a contract for longer than one year.
