Pistons center Zeljko Rebraca underwent surgery at the University of Michigan hospital to correct an irregular heartbeat.

Rebraca, 31, is expected to recover and return to the team in time for training camp in early October.

Kevin Grigg, a Pistons representative, said medical privacy issues prevent the club from releasing the exact surgery date or details of the procedure.

Dr. Fred Morady, a professor of internal medicine at U-M's cardiology center who specializes in treating arrhythmias, performed the surgery.

"We are pleased that everything went according to plan with Zelly's procedure," Pistons President Joe Dumars said in a statement.

Coach Larry Brown said he spoke to Rebraca right before he went into the hospital.

"He sounded pretty nervous about the procedure, so I'm glad it's over for him," Brown said. "I spoke to John (Hammond, vice president of basketball operations) and Joe (Dumars) since then, and they are really encouraged about what's going on and pretty excited that he'll be ready to go."
