Nor a Kobe Bryant or Tracy McGrady or Karl Malone ... But Steve Kerr, a 6-foot-2 guard who could only watch others dunk, reached heights that escaped the bulk of the players who have or will ever travel through the NBA.

Kerr, a shooter of historic shots in Chicago and San Antonio, a possessor of five championship rings, says goodbye now to a playing career and hello to broadcasting.

"It took me a couple of weeks to figure out what I wanted to do," said Kerr, who was hired as an analyst by TNT on Thursday. "But, it's a great opportunity. It's kind of cool going out on a high note."
