Recently, people have been starting to talk about how Phoenix got a distinctly better deal out of the trade than New York. What I am proposing is that this may be due to the fact that New York clearly got a great deal and everyone tries to rationalise it out to compensate both teams in their opinion. They traded in what they could to get their hometown franchise player, and let?s face it; there are only a handful of players you?d trade Marbury straight up for. Phoenix also got a great deal, getting themselves a heap of cap space this off season and a little more the next. However, they gave up their best player, and the guy that the franchise was built around.
It?s overcompensation if there ever was any. It?s hard for us to see how it?s possible that the Knicks could?ve possibly obtained a player the quality of Stephon Marbury, given that apparently, they had no desirable players and next to nothing to offer teams, according to many fans and so-called experts.
So, what we do is assume that Phoenix must have gotten the better deal.
