The Orlando Magic were facing the Washington Wizards, with nothing on the line but the race for the top draft pick. Someone forgot to tell Tracy McGrady.
"I felt like I was just suiting up for another game," said McGrady. "I just had the attitude to get the game over with."
And over with it was.
He scored 62 points -- a career-best, a Magic team record, an NBA season-high and the top solo performance in a decade.
McGrady's monster night was the most prolific output since David Robinson scored 71 points April 24, 1994, against the L.A. Clippers.
"My teammates told me to get 60," McGrady said. "Then they told me to get 70. ... This was a big night for me personally because it has been a long season. It's been frustrating because I'm a fierce competitor.
"I saw a lot of gaps in their defense. The shots were falling for me. When I am in that mood and that frame of mind, you are pretty much at my mercy no matter what defense you throw at me."
McGrady hoisted a career-tying 37 shots and made 20 field goals.
