Known for his trademark "Yes!" call, Marv Albert who has been the voice of the Knicks for 35 years on radio and television, is leaving the MSG Network. According to a person involved in the negotians for his contract extension, it is largely over his candid and sometimes critical approach to calling the team's games.

"We weren't able to come to an agreement, and I felt it was time to go in a different direction," Albert said by telephone from Los Angeles. He said that he would still call N.B.A. games on TNT and "Monday Night Football'' on radio on Westwood One, but that he wanted to find another full-time job.

He added that "it stopped being enjoyable for me" on MSG, "and I decided to move on."

MSG saluted him for being one of the "pre-eminent play-by-play telecasters of his generation" in a statement and said, "The timing of his departure is right for Marv and thus it is right for the network."

Albert, 63, refused to comment on the reasons for his leaving or on his relationship with executives at MSG or its parent company, Cablevision.
