Isiah Thomas may only have a mid-level salary-cap exception worth slightly more than $5 million and the $1 million exception, but the Knick president plans to come out guns blazing.  Thomas has made no secret of his desire to be active in the free-agent market, even targeting the most elite of this year's class of free agents.

"We'll be actively trying to improve our team whether it be through trades or free agency," he said after the Draft. "This is the time that I think we'll probably be the most active. I don't necessarily think it'll be a lot of the bigger names that are in the market. However, there are some pieces that are kind of floating around out there that we think we can acquire that will make our team better."

With many teams likely to shuffle pieces this off-season, look for the Knicks to be in the mix, attempting to be part of as many trades and player moves as they can.

The Knicks will at least make an effort to speak to some of the more prominent names, like Kobe Bryant and Rasheed Wallace, but even Thomas has admitted that his chances are better with the next tier of players.  Among the unrestricted free-agents available will be Stephen Jackson of Atlanta, Brent Barry of Seattle and the former Knick Antonio McDyess.  But players who are restricted include Darius Miles of Portland, Gordan Giricek of Utah, Mehmet Okur of Detroit and Jamal Crawford of Chicago, a player very high on Thomas' wish list.
