The technique is simple, when a good shooter goes up for a jump shot, give him a slight tap on the elbow or forearm. This tap, administered ever so slightly, does just enough to throw the jump shot out of alignment and guarantees a miss. Ra Allen, one of the best shooters in the game feels that teams are using this tactic on him in an attempt to bring down the Sonic juggernaut. The Chicago Bulls are no exception.
"It's not anything that's dirty basketball, but coaching the small things to make your players to be successful, to make a shooter miss," Allen said. "It should be a foul. See what you can get away with . . . gaining
"It's good coaching more than anything. What if the referee doesn't call it? Keep doing it again. It's not a foul unless the referees call it. . . . Every time I went to shoot, they were hitting me on my elbow."
One thing is for certain, with all the hoopla being made about the 'snakebite' other teams are bound to give it a shot. As Ray Allen has proved, it works!
