Orlando Magic General Manager John Weisbrod announced today that Johnny Davis has been dismissed from his position as head coach. Magic assistant coach Chris Jent has been named interim head coach. In addition, the Magic have released assistant coach Ron Ekker.

"We work in a bottom line business," said Weisbrod. "It is our responsibility to do everything possible to create the best opportunity for success.

"We will continue to do everything possible to make this team better and feel at this time that we need a new voice and direction," added Weisbrod. "The organization is grateful to Johnny for his work and loyalty, and I wish he and his family the best."

Davis was named Orlando's head coach back on November 17, 2003, taking over for Doc Rivers during the early part of the 2003-04 season.  His Magic head coaching record was 51-84, including 31-33 this season. His overall head coaching mark, including one season at Philadelphia (1996-97), is 73-144.

Chris Jent, who was named assistant coach on August 12, 2004, becomes the seventh coach in franchise history. He spent the 2003-04 season with Philadelphia as assistant coach/player development.
