The Cavs have told Gooden that they want to keep him long term and that they will reward him if he concentrates on rebounding and is satisfied with only having a couple of plays called for him each game.

That said, they very likely won't extend his contract before the Oct. 31 deadline, meaning Gooden will be playing for his future. How he handles it will be an insight to his maturity.
