The Sixers, who had been very close to, if not over, the NBA's luxury tax threshold of $61.7 million, will see Steven Hunter's salary subtracted from their payroll. The $2.8 million can be used as a trade exception, and the Sixers have a $4.5 million exception from their trade of Marc Jackson last summer to the New Jersey Nets.

The Sixers can use that money to obtain a player, but Billy King said nothing is etched in stone. The trade deadline is Feb. 23.
