Spain international guard Rudy Fernandez has extended his contract with DKV Joventut for three seasons, tying him to the club through the 2010-11 campaign.

Fernandez, who was selected in the first round of the NBA draft on June 28 by Phoenix and then traded to Portland, had been weighing his options with Barcelona also interested in signing him.

In announcing the new deal, DKV indicated on its web site it would not hinder the player's move to the NBA.

"The club, in exchange (for signing the deal), will ease his way to the NBA in any of the seasons," the club said.
